Takin’ Care of Business?

I spent most of this week at the new Aria hotel in Las Vegas where their signature show by Cirque du Soleil is Viva Elvis.

While I did not have the chance to see the show, every time I walked to and from the conference center, I walked by the theatre (and of course the gift shop). You might remember my post asking CPAs…. Are You Elvis Now?

I was in Vegas at the 2011 version of the AICPA PractitionersTECH Symposium. I have had the wonderful opportunity to be on the planning committee for several years and I also spoke this year on Winning the CPA Firm Communication Game.

The over 1100 people in attendance seemed to have a fun and rewarding time. I got to connect with so many old friends and meet so many new ones.  Mark your calendar for June 11-13, 2012 for an even bigger conference when the Association for Accounting Marketing co-locates their conference with PSTECH.

So, what do I want you to think about, focus on, commit to… today?

The Elvis motto: TCB

Elvis embraced the initials, along with a lightning bolt, as his motto/symbol and stressed the importance of taking care of business with his band and others. At the gift shop, I bought the lapel pin with the well-know Elvis symbol – the initials TCB with a lightning bolt (the picture is the pin on my jacket). Takin’ Care of Business is actually a song by Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

I’m committed to Takin Care of Business, are you?  Are you focused on what’s best for your clients and your team members every day?  As a leader (or future leader), are you working on your business rather than “in” your business most days? TCB, to me, is not just about financial business success, it is about being focused on your goals and keeping your word. In your daily life inside a CPA firm there are many distractions and many people who need your attention. Don’t lose sight of the vision, strive to maintain focus on TCB.

Yes, I couldn’t resist, I had my picture taken with Elvis at one of the exhibitor’s booths. While I was TCB, I was also having fun.
