Special Friday Post For CPAs Attending The New England MAP Conference

I’m sitting in the Providence airport after spending 2 days with about 140 partners/managing partners (and some other CPA firm citizens, speakers and vendors) at the New England MAP Conference.

You might find it interesting that this year’s attendance was nearly double last year’s attendance. That tells me that practitioners have interest in and perhaps challenges with the various MAP issues and they are looking for answers.

The decline in attendance at various state MAP conferences has been steady over the last several years. Some states have eliminated them altogether. I am hoping that there will be even more interest in MAP topics in 2012 and beyond.

One of the greatest values you get from MAP conferences, especially state or regional based, is that you are spending time other managing partners/partners who are there for the same reason….. to learn, to hear about new ideas, to hear about old ideas that have worked well for other firms and to take the ideas back to your own firm to implement.

You become who you surround yourself with.  If you hang out with negative people, you will become negative. If you hang out with successful CPAs who are interested in improving and growing their firms, it will rub off.  I hope that happened many times over at the NE MAP Conference.

Hello to those of you who said you would check-out my blog. I hope you subscribe and read it every day. If you want to follow me on Twitter, my Twitter handle is @cpamanagement.

I know you have good intentions leaving the MAP conference. Now it is time to go back to your firm and implement.  Pick 3 ideas from your notes and implement at least ONE before December 31.

Thanks to the MA Society and the Committee for their hospitality and thanks to all the attendees for sitting through all the face-time with me (4 sessions!). Also, thanks to each of you who talked with me personally. It was great making so many new acquaintances.
