Hello. Good Morning. Thank-You.

Do you ever find it difficult to acknowledge others? Do you ever simply forget to acknowledge others? No matter what your role inside an accounting firm, intern to owner, you have the power of acknowledgement and recognition.

Something I frequently hear from CPA team members is the fact that some leaders don’t even say “Good morning.” or even “Hello.”  They walk by and generally ignore most people.

I know it is NOT an intentional slight or lack of manners. But sometimes we forget the power of recognition. Check-out my short video to learn why recognition is so important.

I also often hear team members actually make excuses for these leaders. It goes something like this: “Joe, doesn’t ever say good morning, I know he is really busy and has a lot on his mind.”  I also hear similar stories about leaders and the words THANK YOU.  Many firm leaders say them rarely, if ever.

Somewhere along the line, over a period of time, you might begin to take people for granted. Be aware!

I love to share Tom Peters’ Big Six:

  1. Hello.
  2. Thank you.
  3. Eye contact.
  4. Fierce listening.
  5. What do you think?
  6. How can I help?

How about practicing the Big Six, no matter what your title or role in the firm.
