The CPE Rush

“If it weren’t for the last minute, nothing would get done.” – Rita Mae Brown

As the year draws to a close many CPAs are very busy. Busy no longer applies to the traditional tax season – January through April 15.

December means your year-end tax letter to clients, providing client organizers, updating the client checklist you send out, preparing engagement letters, and performing all of the year-end tax planning sessions with clients.

For some of you, another December “rush” activity is obtaining the Continuing Professional Education hours you need to meet the professional standards in your state. This is one you should not be burdened with when it comes down to the last month of your reporting cycle.

You wait until the last minute because many other things seem more important.

Please make a New Year’s resolution (and keep it) that you will obtain the necessary CPE credits well ahead of the next deadline. CPE is even more important now than in the past because so many changes are happening in the profession – tax-related, technology-related, and more!

“Gain more knowledge and keep current!” should be the battle cry for firm leaders and for the entire team.
